ENTRY FORM & Conditions of entry
Conditions of Entry
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS BEFORE FILLING OUT THE ENTRY FORM
1. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, gender queer, queer, intersex & asexual people, rainbow families and close allies of all ages, who either were born in, or are currently residing in Tasmania, are invited to exhibit their creative works in the Artfully Queer 2025 - RESISTANCE Exhibition.
2. The exhibition is open to all artistic mediums & formats, and we ask that the work that incorporates the theme of the exhibition (RESISTANCE).
3. Entry is free for anyone with a current TasPride Inc membership. To become a TasPride Member click here.
If you are under 18 you can submit up to three works without being a TasPride member.
If you are experiencing financial hardship and this would prevent you from becoming a TasPride member, and being involved in the exhibition, please contact the curator for special consideration.
4. Your online entry form must be submitted by 11:59pm Sunday the 5th October 2025 so we can start planing the gallery layout. Entry forms may be accepted (but not guaranteed ) after this date at the curators discretion. If you are planning a very large work, a performance piece, or gallery installation please contact the curator to discuss in advance.
5. Each artist may enter up to three works. If you have a compelling reason to enter more than three works (for example if they are very small works) then contact the curator to discuss. If you are interested in creating a gallery installation or performance art work please contact the curator in advance. The exhibition is in the Long Gallery so it is a large and flexible space, go large if you like, but talk to the curator in advance if your work or installation is bigger than 2m square.
6. All work must be the original work of the artist/s and must not have been shown in previous Artfully Queer Exhibitions (excluding Artfully Queer Digital). The work is to be no more than 2 years old (unless there is a compelling reason to include it) and we encourage all work to be a response to the theme RESISTANCE. Invited "Featured Artists" are exempt from clause 6 however their work must still address the theme in some way.
7. We request that if possible (we understand not everyone is comfortable with writing) artists write a brief statement about how they have addressed the theme "RESISTANCE". This information can help the audience understand the context and intent of the work. The art prize judging panel also appreciate knowing more about your response to the theme. You can fill out your artists statement via our online entry form. If you require assistance to write your statement or if you would prefer to submit a non written statement as a digital sound or video file contact the curator.
8. All works must be delivered to Salamanca Arts Centre between 10am - 2pm on Wednesday the 8th of October 2025, unless otherwise arranged with the curator. Delivery is the responsibility of the artist.
All works must be clearly identified (labeled) with the artist's name, phone number and work title, & arrive 'exhibition ready' (for example, with an effective and safe hanging system if required).
Installation work will need to be set up by the artist/s on Thursday the 9th or by arrangement with the curator (contact the curator to arrange times). Wall works with insufficient hanging systems may be rejected or not exhibited - no responsibility is taken for works with insufficient hanging systems. If they fall because of an unsafe frame we take no responsibility for the loss.
NOTE: Be wary of cheap frames and any frames with hanging hooks glued onto cardboard or fibre board, particularly on heavier works. If a hanging system is considered unsafe (for the work) we may have to, if possible, adapt your hanging system or exhibit the work in another way for example, on the floor.
9. Artwork may be photographed by TasPride Inc and be used to promote this and future exhibitions in publications or online. We may also use photos of your work in our online archival gallery.
10. All works are to remain at the Long Gallery until the collection date and time (NO EXCEPTIONS). All works, included sold works must be collected from the Long Gallery between 4pm - 6:30pm Sunday 26th of October. Collection of work is the responsibility of the artist, or the buyer on completion of payment.
If you are unable to collect work at this time we may, in exceptional circumstances be able to make alternative arrangements, however this means your work will have to be shifted by a kind volunteer to another as yet unknown location to be picked up at a later date - TasPride holds no responsibility for loss or damage of works not collected at the arranged time. Salamanca Arts Centre can not store works for us and we need to vacate the gallery completely by 6:30pm on Sunday the 26th of October 2025.
11. You may choose to have your work/s available for sale. A commission of 10% will be charged by TasPride Inc for all works sold. TasPride Inc will manage the sale of works and will not release the work to the buyer until the artist has been paid the full amount minus the 10% commission. Artists selling work must provide their bank account details for direct deposit. (See Entry Form) the 10% commission helps to cover costs such as gallery hire and administration costs.
12. All entries are exhibited at the owner's own risk. TasPride Inc & Salamanca Arts Centre will not accept any liability for loss, damage or theft. Please note the exhibition space will be supervised by a volunteer when open to the public.
13. Art Prizes: Artworks will be judged by a panel of established and well respected LGBTIQA+ artists/designers/creatives. Artists can choose to be excluded from any competition (see entry form), otherwise entry will be assumed. The Collective Community Work is not eligible for any prize. Featured Artsists (invited established artists), the exhibition curator, & art prize panel judges are also not eligible for any prizes.
14. We ask that prize-winning works be available for display (where and when possible) on request for future events like retrospective or commemorative exhibitions & shows.
15. As Artfully Queer is run/organised entirely by volunteers (including the curator), we ask exhibitors to help out with gallery sitting. Exhibitors are asked to help invigilate (gallery sit) the exhibition, and can indicate their community spirit in this regard in their entry form.
If you work during the week, consider a shift on the weekend. Gallery sitting shifts are usually around 3 hours. There's a lovely queer friendly cafe (Tricycle Cafe) underneath the Long Gallery and there's worse things to do on a Saturday or Sunday than sit with a coffee and a toastie surrounded by your communities creative output. It's fun watching the public view your work too, please note having volunteer invigilators are one of the ways we are able to minimise the commission TasPride charges to exhibit. If you live too far away, have inadequate transport, are under 18, or have physical or mental conditions that would prevent volunteering as a gallery sitter you are not expected to volunteer.
16. Concerning the Collective Community Work only - contributions to the Collective Community Work will never be sold for profit, but may be donated at TasPride's discretion to LGBTIQA+ community organisations. By contributing to the Collective Work you agree to this condition.
17. Concerning Featured Artists only - Featured Artists are practicing, famous/notorious LGBTIQA+ artists and designers and creatives who are invited by the curator to participate as a gesture of queer community solidarity and LGBTIQA+ visibility. They are not eligible to enter any prizes, but may choose to sell their work and 10% of any sale goes to supporting TasPride.
18. The curator reserves the right to refuse to display or to remove entries without notice and for any reason whatsoever.
Ablest, biphobic, homophobic, racist, sexist, sexually explicit, and any harmful or ill intended works will be refused.
Works inappropriate for an all ages exhibition will also be refused, for example nudes are ok but pornography is not.
Thanks so much for for taking the time to familiarise yourself with our conditions of entry. Any further questions? Email the curator, Phoebe Adams at phleabytes@gmail.com
