Tassie Mardi Gras float 2009

The call is out for Tasmanians and their friends to join the growing group heading to Sydney with Tasmania tattooed on their chest to take part in the 2009 Mardi Gras Parade.

Following on from last year’s huge success with the Tassie Devil’s float, the Gay and Lesbian Community Centre (GLC) committee members are throwing themselves into preparations for the 2009 Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, to take place on Saturday 7 March 2009.

Float theme

This year’s theme, Tasmania United, celebrates the team that is the Tasmanian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (GLBTI) community. It also fits in nicely with the overall parade theme Nations United, raising awareness of the huge gulf that exists in the rights of GLBTI people around the world. Tasmania United says we are strong, we are proud, we are Tasmanian.

Costume

As a team, we need a uniform. All participants of Tasmania United will dressed in black clothes of their choice and will receive a hat (baseball cap), shorts, temporary tattoos and a whistle to bring the team together. Check out the uniform

The Experience

Only those who have walked in the parade, can understand the true buzz you feel as over half a million people join you in the biggest celebration of the year.
