About us

TasPrideTeam

A small group of concerned people met in December 1992 in Hobart to discuss the possibility of establishing a Gay and Lesbian Community Centre, essentially to be a focus for support, resources and communication in the wider gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

The Gay and Lesbian Community Centre was originally incorporated as The GLC Centre Inc.

These days, a Gay and Lesbian Community Centre is no longer necessary due to dramatic changes in social attitudes, gay rights and gay law reform. Therefore in 2009 we took on the name TasPride Inc. to better represent our community and our purpose.

We continue to be dedicated to celebrating, uniting and promoting the Tasmanian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer community.

We produce the TasPride Festival each November, host cultural events throughout the year and publishe a regular newsletter. We also promote a wide range of activities produced all year around by the many GLBTIQ organisations in Tasmania.

Membership is open to all members of the GLBTIQ community and their friends, both in Tasmania and across Australia.

Members of TasPride receive regular information about Queer life in Tasmania through the Bulletin, and can take advantage of members-only rates to special events. TasPride also has an active Facebook page, which we use to promote events in Tasmania. You can also find us on Twitter - just look for @TasPride.
