Richard Hale - public officerRichard joined GUSTO, the fore-runner of the GLC Centre, when he arrived in Tasmania in 1984, and has been involved in many GLBTIQ community organisations since then, including the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group and the Wellington Wanderers. In 2003, he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his contributions to the Tasmanian gay and lesbian community. Working part-time with the Parks and Wildlife Service, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Magnolia Café, Richard gets to enjoy three of his favourite hobbies, the natural environment, art, and vegetarian food! "Diversity and community are major themes in my life. Some of the things I love about being involved with TasPride are our increasing focus on creativity and community development, our inclusivity and our celebration of diversity," says Richard. Richard loves helping out with Artfully Queer, with decorating spaces for the Queens Ball and Halloween Party, and with the TasPride picnic day. He's also keen to promote and increase TasPride membership. "We love what we're achieving. We work hard at it and have a great time doing it. Who wouldn't want to be involved?" |
