Mark Howell - treasurer

Mark has been an active member of the gay community in Hobart since the late 1990's. He ended his first term on the GLC Centre committee in 2001 and has helped out with many community and private events ever since. Mark rejoined the TasPride committee in 2008 as co‑ordinator for Tassie's float in the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade - which is a project he continues to look after today. Mark was very proactive in the brand creation for TasPride and has been responsible for the development of the TasPride website.

"I want to be involved with TasPride because I want to help make a difference here in Tasmania. Over the years I've seen so many gay boys and girls leave Tasmania because they think nothing goes on in Tasmania and there is no future for them here. I believe the creation of TasPride has proven that theory wrong!" Mark said.

Mark is an experienced business person and has been self employed since 1997. With a background in Design & Technology, Mark now has several business interests in Tasmania, interstate and overseas – including a media production studio, advertising agency, music distribution service, radio station and special gay-friendly nightclub events. Mark's company, New Sky Media, won the prestigious Telstra Business Award for Tasmania in 2007. New Sky Media currently employs 5 full-time staff members in Hobart and has a customer base of over 8,500 people and businesses across the world. "Technology plays a big part in my business and enables us do anything from right here in Tassie" Mark said.

Mark's experience in business is put to good use on the TasPride committee and he is currently the Treasurer for the organisation.

Mark is also an accomplished DJ and performs regularly at Lalaland and other special events in Hobart. He has recently joined the team of DJs playing at Sublime events at Home Nightclub in Sydney. "Playing to a massive crowd at a Sydney super-club has always been a dream of mine" Mark said.
